A Simple Philosophy

Provided with a stimulating and fertile musical environment, positive role models, gentle guidance and encouragement, young children will have enriching and vital musical experiences that help them gain a sense of themselves and a connection to the world they live in.

Goals and Expectations

A Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals class is a place where children can experience music in a rich variety of ways. Whether actively participating or simply listening and watching, children are learning in ways that are right for them as individuals, and at their own pace. A more instructional approach, with a focus on specific results, is not only age inappropriate, but totally unnecessary for their musical development. Exposure to musical experiences, guidance and parental modeling allows young children to explore and learn on their own without the anxiety of others expectations..

Parents as Models

Parent/caregiver participation in class activities is strongly encouraged. Whether you consider yourself to be musically inclined, or someone who can't carry a tune to save your life, is of little importance when it comes to the positive impact your participation will have on your child. Your willingness and enthusiasm are invaluable assets to the group as a whole, and exemplify for your child that joining in is not about "performing" but having fun. And by the way, if Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals isn't fun, demand your money back. Hope to see you in class!

Nashville Teachers:

Corinne Callen

(Nashville Director and Teacher)

Miss Corinne grew up in sunny Winter Haven, Florida. She began her love for music at a young age in school choir and in musical theater, and she also acted in movies as a child in Orlando, FL. She discovered the classical guitar in her teen years which provided the foundation for her songwriting and performance career. She has performed all over her former city of New York in her solo band and in popular power-pop group Le Mood, and now performs regularly in her current city of Nashville as the front-woman for the “dreamy rock ‘n roll band” American Dream, opening for such bands as Veruca Salt and The Motels among others. She has had songs licensed to numerous films, television shows, and commercial spots, and has toured the U.S. and U.K. In 2010 she played alongside Ok Go at the Youtube Biennial Awards show, and most recently performed as a multi-instrumentalist and background singer in Bebe Buell’s band in Nashville.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Florida State University. While in college, she participated in the Arts and Medicine program which provided her opportunities to perform regularly at the local hospital.

In her NYC days she worked as a nanny and was introduced to the Music for Aardvarks program in 2009 while attending classes with a child under her care. She is the proud Auntie of three nephews and one niece, two of which have also attended the Music for Aardvarks program and absolutely loved it! Music for Aardvarks Nashville is the answer to her dreams, incorporating two things that make her most happy, great tunes and inspiring little ones! She cannot wait to sing and dance with you!

Nell Maynard

Miss Nell is a Colorado-born songwriter with a deep love for the outdoors. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2014 with a degree in biochemistry and now lives in Nashville. While living on the west coast for a brief stint, she taught Music for Aardvarks in the fantastic San Francisco program and is thrilled to continue singing with babies here in TN. Her musical experience encompasses fronting indie bands, writing for other artists, and singing her heart out in choirs and a cappella groups everywhere she goes. Nell brings her joy and wonder to Nashville’s aardvarks program and is grateful for the privilege of dancing with your magical kiddos.
